OUR MISSION

St. Polycarp School, K-8, exists to serve the children of St. Polycarp Parish, other Catholic parishes, and those children of families who embrace our philosophy of education. Our mission is to integrate elements of the Catholic faith with the learning process while providing academic excellence. We nurture and support each student in the continuous growth and development of religious, psychological, social, academic, physical, and aesthetic talents. St. Polycarp School serves as a catalyst in preparing committed followers of Christ who are life-long learners.

PHILOSOPHY

Recognizing Christ as the center of our lives, we the community of St. Polycarp School, proclaim our commitment to share the Gospel message with all those we serve. As a people of God, our mission is to nourish the continuing growth and development of the individual's journey in faith and to cultivate in each a desire to be an instrument of Christ's peace and justice throughout the world. To accomplish this mission, our community encourages each individual to become a more complete person through the continuous development of his/her religious, psychological, social, academic, physical and aesthetic talents. We, as a community, believe that the family is the primary educator of its children. Realizing the importance to adapt to a changing society and to prepare for the future, we continue to assist and to support the family and its mission and pledge our efforts in the education of the whole child.

CURRICULUM

St. Polycarp School is proud of its integrated academic program.  In planning and developing curriculum, St. Polycarp School utilizes a balanced approach of the California State Standards, the Diocesan Curriculum Guidelines, the School-wide Learning Expectations, In-depth Studies, and WASC accreditation criteria and reports.  All faculty members plan their curriculum in coordination with the administration in order to make sure that standards are met and the SLEs are visible and implemented daily.

The faculty has been trained through multiple in-services to approach instruction from a variety of methods to ensure that every student’s needs in the classroom are met.  Each student is taught by multiple teachers in a variety of specialty classes, such as physical education, computer, music, library skills, and art The school also has a strong Inclusion program.

Through the support of our Inclusion Specialist and the dedication of our classroom teachers, students in need of academic support are identified and worked with in partnership with the parents. Supporting our students with greater academic needs works to improve student growth and the achievement of our SLEs.
